Who is ready for some patio weather? If you’re a midwest girl like myself, then you already know how valuable our patio time is! When we first moved into our new house, one of spaces I could not wait to transform was the backyard. It was in need of some MAJOR TLC and I knew the process would take longer than a few days. We started the patio process back in April, you can see the original update here!
Since our house is a split level, our basement is a walkout to the backyard. I absolutely love this about our house, because it creates such a nice flow! The one downside, is it always created a split feeling between our patio. When we first started updating our patio, the right hand side (images below) was where we put most of our efforts.
The left side of our patio held the grill, leaving an awkward amount of room. Thank goodness this is no longer the case! Over the weekend we put together this 3 piece set and oversized umbrella. I still can not get over how it brings the space together!

One of the reasons we have struggled with completing the patio has also been due to the lack of shade. We have a huge tree that covers the right side of the patio, but the left side has always been in direct sunlight. Aaron and I have been going back and forth for a couple months now, on how to solve this issue. Building a gazebo never felt practical due to the patio spilt, and we struggled with finding an awning we both loved. But when we both saw this oversized umbrella on BCP’s website, we instantly knew it was a must for our patio space! Not only does it shade the entire seating area, it covers the whole open space!
Creating an additional seating area on our patio, has really brought the entire entertaining space together. Now, we can have friends over and not worry about some people having seats, and some of our friends being stuck standing in the sun.
