Red Roses Part II – Valentine’s Day 2018

Red Roses Part II

Did you see last year’s Valentine’s Day post?

Happy Valentine’s Day lovelies! I hope you’re all having the best week so far and spreading the love a little extra today. Last year I wrote a post about Valentine’s Day and how red roses have always meant something a little extra special.

It was so strange reading what I wrote for last year’s Valentine’s Day post. So much of it was still true today, even though a hundred things have changed. I mentioned in last year’s post how special my dad always made Valentine’s Day for us all. He still to this day sends my sister’s and I flowers no matter what state we live in. And just like clockwork, my flowers arrived yesterday on the front porch. I love how he still takes the time to send us small reminders of how much he loves us all.

This time last year Aaron and I celebrated our first Valentine’s together, we were about 11 months into dating long distance. So we were together, but not together. Last year I had an idea in my mind, that when we finally lived in the same city we would spend today eating pizza, watching a romcom (our fave type of movie!) and drinking wine. Simple, but perfect.

Fast forward to Valentine’s day 2018 – we live in the same city, we’re planning a wedding and the last 9 months has been exactly what I thought one day would be like last year. It’s crazy to think that what I pictured as the perfect Valentine’s Day, has become our usual Friday night.

I know today is dreaded by some and loved by a few. I’m the world’s biggest sap, so any excuse to love on someone I take and run a million miles with it. You would think Valentine’s day would be my favorite “holiday” out of the year. But instead it’s simply become an excuse to fill our house with flowers, not that I really need one. Don’t get me wrong, I love all of the small little things that have become traditions over the years.

But there is something I love more.

Over the past year I’ve shared a decent amount about my relationship with Aaron. I boast and brag about how amazing he is on a regular basis. That doesn’t mean that there are never small arguments, or that we don’t get on each other’s nerves. I have no doubt in my mind that my laundry being all over the house sends his OCD into full swing. But the thing I love the most, is how easily forgiveness flows throughout his mind and actions. How no matter how many times I forget to unload the dishwasher, he never holds a grudge. And how every single day he tells me that he loves me. The way he cares for me outshines anything Valentine’s Day could ever bring. Which is why, I pray that each of you single ladies out there find this type of man one day. Don’t believe the lie that good guy’s are only in the movies. You deserve to be loved fully, not just on Valentine’s Day.

XOXO

Emily
