TRAVEL GUIDE: Geneva, Switzerland

TRAVEL GUIDE: Geneva, Switzerland

Happy Friday babes! I can’t believe we’ve been in Europe for 10 days already. We have a week and a half left in France before heading back home. We started our European adventure off in Geneva, Switzerland.

Why Geneva?

When we first booked our honeymoon, our original idea was to spend the whole time in Switzerland. We had heard it was gorgeous and kind of the place to be, for a one in a lifetime kind of adventure. So we booked our flights into Geneva and started researching where to go and stay. After some research, we started to realize that it was CRAZY expensive to stay in Switzerland for 11 days. To give you a little idea of how insane it is, the total cost of staying in Switzerland for 11 days, was the exact same as staying in France for 19 days.

Since our flight was already booked, we figured it was worth spending a day or two in Geneva before starting our trip to the south of France.

Where we Stayed

We stayed at Hotel Des Alpes, which was a short train ride from the airport. The room was small, but right in the middle of all the action. It was the perfect location for exploring all Geneva had to offer! Another plus, was that they offered a free breakfast and coffee every morning. Since a typical breakfast for two people in Geneva averages around $35, this was a major money saver!

What we Did

We only had one full day in Geneva, and honestly that was the perfect amount of time. Geneva is not a large city, so we were able to explore everything in one day. It is a beautiful city, right on the water and has amazingly delicious gelato.

The one thing we did that is an absolute must: Ferris wheel ride. You were able to see the entire city, and have a few moments on top of the world. If we ever go back that will be the first thing I do the moment our feet hit the ground!

The rest of our time was spent, “getting lost” in old town and throughout the historic side of Geneva. There were some beautiful side streets, views and cathedrals around every corner.

What we Would do Different

There really isn’t much I would do differently when it came to our Geneva trip. It was short, sweet and the perfect way to kick off our adventure! If I could do it again, I probably would have rented the car sooner so we could have seen more of Switzerland. Geneva is very city and industrial, so it would have been nice to see more of the country side. Other than that, it was amazing!

If you’ve been to Switzerland, I would love to hear your favorite spots!

XOXO
