TRAVEL GUIDE: Kilkenny, Ireland

Everything you need to know about Kilkenny, Ireland.

Happy Tuesday ladies! We are currently riding a train to the last leg of our Ireland trip, so what better time then now to share the first part of our trip to Ireland with y’all! For the first 4 days we spent time with Aaron’s family in Kilkenny, Ireland before making our way north.

Kilkenny was absolutely gorgeous! The city center was straight from a postcard and every single person we met was SO nice. Like, “walking out of the restaurant because they didn’t have the opportunity to ask how our meal was” nice. Our first couple of days were jam packed with some of the most amazing sites and tours.

Only have 48hrs in Kilkenny? Here are your must visit spots:

Dunmore Cave

If you like limestone & scary stories, then this place is for you! The Dunmore Cave was HUGE and such an amazing experience. I haven’t toured a cave since I was in middle school, and this tour had me wanting to go explore every cave nearby.

Pro-tip: wear sneakers and a raincoat. Inside of the cave is very wet and there is water that leaks from the top of the cave.

Kilkenny Castle

Aaron’s one request while we were in Ireland: see as many castles as possible. And that we did!

Can we all take a moment and appreciate the fact that the Kilkenny Castle has a legit selfie spot?!

Fennelly’s

Fennelly’s was the first place we ate breakfast in Kilkenny. They had amazing lattes, the food was full of flavor and kept us full almost the whole day!

Smithwick’s

I’m not a huge beer person but one sip of Smithwick’s blonde ale & I’m a changed lady! Aaron’s uncle is a tour guide at Smithwick’s so there was no way we were going to pass up a brewery tour. One of the coolest parts about the tour had to be the amount of technology they incorporated. We’ve been on a lot of distillery and brewery tours, but Smithwick’s was hands down the most entertaining one to date!

Kells

What more could you ask for other than sheep & castles while in Ireland. This was Aaron’s favorite place we visited in Kilkenny! I loved the sheep. So many sheep, gorgeous views and a great place to kick off your day.

WHAT I WORE

All about those layers & don’t you dare forget your rain boots.

Kilkenny was the perfect way to kick off our 11 day Ireland vacation! Everywhere we visited had unbelievable views, the food was delicious and the weather was beautiful!
