Affiliate Links- What’s the Deal?
Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, I may receive a commission if you click a link and purchase something. Please check out our disclosure policy for more details.
Happy Thursday babes! I am having so much fun writing these blogging tips, types of posts lately. There is SO much information out there when it comes to blogging, and I truly understand how overwhelming it can be! Something I couldn’t seem to get enough information about when starting was, affiliate links.
So let’s start from the beginning – why are affiliate links important and what exactly are they?
An affiliate link is generated through an affiliate program. They are used as a way to monetize your blog on products you are discussing and using. Some affiliate programs have specific and strict requirements, others are pretty simple and easy to join. It’s important to remember that in order to utilize affiliate links on your blog, you must be self hosting your site. If you’re lost on what self hosting means, jump back to my first blogging tip post here!
Affiliate links generate commission either off of sales or clicks. Personally, I prefer affiliate networks that work off of sales. These sales are generated when someone makes a purchase using your link that’s embedded within the post. I personally use my own affiliate links as well when shopping online. So you have that option as well!
My favorite Affiliate Networks
Share a Sale – This is pretty much the affiliate bank of networks. Share a sale is PACKED full of different brands looking for bloggers. You are able to apply to become an affiliate for pretty much any and all company’s you can think of. I use Share a Sale for adding banners to the side of my blog. The commission rates are fairly high, which is a win in affiliate marketing.
Bluehost– I have loved joining the bluehost affiliate program for a few reasons. Number one, the amount of commission you make on 1 sign up is $65. I MEAN COME ON! That’s amazing! Number two, you’re simply promoting something you’re already using. I self host my blog through Bluehost, so it only seems natural to become an affiliate.
Swoozies – I fell in love with Swoozies while living in Atlanta, when I found out they had an affiliate program I pretty much fell over backwards to join. You receive 10% on the entire sale that is purchased through your affiliate link. Considering the typical sale is around $100, you’re averaging a pretty great commission.
RewardStyle- I have been using RS for the past year, to link my clothing in blog posts and on Instagram. It’s super easy to use and loaded with every brand you could think of. You do have to be accepted into this program though. I actually applied twice before being accepted last year. If you’re looking for a referral comment your email address below or send me an email with your info and I’ll refer you!
SendOwl- SendOwl is an easy way for brands to sell digital products directly on their website. SendOwl basically does all of the boring stuff that helps you sell your digital products. You are also able to sign up as an affiliate with brands that sell online courses through SendOwl. The commission is high and their platform is easy to use!
I am part of some other affiliate networks like Amazon and Style Collective. Right now, those networks are not really generating much of an income. If we’re being honest, they’re both generating under $10 a month.
The main goal when using affiliate links, is to generate income and monetize products you already love. Make sure you are not just promoting items to promote. Your readers will catch on and your creditability will be out the door. These links are simply a vehicle to monetize your post, but they only work if you work at it. Creating an income from affiliate links takes some time. I don’t care what you read, but you will not start making millions over night. You have to provide your readers with every reason why this product works. And this only comes from using it yourself. Simply placing a link in front from someone’s face will not do the job.
I’d love to hear which affiliate networks you’re apart of and love!
XOXO
