Weekend Adventures- How to Pack for A Road Trip

How to Pack for A Road Trip

Happy Monday lovelies! Aaron and I had the best weekend celebrating his cousin’s wedding. I’m sure you were already aware of that though, if you follow me on Instagram! We decided to make a little mini staycation out of the wedding and it was so nice to get away, even if it was only 45 mins from our house. With this staycation, came a whole lot of baggage….see what I did there? hahah. But in all honesty, does anyone else feel like it is harder to pack for a road trip vs. flying? I always want to shove everything possible into the car. Leaving Aaron shaking his head at me. So let’s talk about how to pack for a road trip effectively!

We both have a rule that we ALWAYS pack our suitcases the night before our vacation. We typically do this together and talk about everything that’s going to take place over the weekend. Aaron let’s me micromanage his outfits for the weekend and I throw my whole closet into my bag. It’s truly a beautiful system we have in place.

It might be hard to imagine, but I’ve really gotten better at not over packing. So much so, that when we went to Kentucky a few weeks ago I forgot multiple outfits and toothpaste…. Which is why I’m only going to share Aaron’s tips on how to successfully pack for a road trip!

Lay All Your Clothes Out – Before Aaron puts anything into his suitcase, he lays out all of his outfits. I never understood this at first, but having that visual really helps to avoid overpacking or forgetting something.

Have separate travel toiletries – This was another thing, I failed at before Aaron. I was your typical, throw every bottle of hairspray into my bag and pray it fits. Or I would forget my toothbrush in the rush the next morning. But Aaron has a system I tell you! He has his travel size toiletries and has them all packed in his travel bag. Seriously, genius.

Pack Your Shoes First– Now, this is something that I actually knew to do! I love packing my shoes in travel shoe bags, because germs are the worst. Putting your shoes at the bottom of your suitcase is ideal for saving space.

Only bring one Extra Bag – I’m the worst at throwing every single purse and bag into the car before leaving. Aaron always brings his messenger bag and suitcase. That is ALL he puts into the trunk of the car. I actually tried this, this past weekend and it really made life easier. Not only was I not searching millions of bags for a shirt. I knew exactly what I brought with me was in 2 bags. Nothing more or less. This also makes walking from the car to the Airbnb a million times easier.

As y’all can see, Aaron pretty much is holding us together in the packing department! I’m hoping one day I will have all of his “best practices” mastered. But until then, at least I’m only dragging about 2 bags and not 5 for a weekend trip.

I’d love to hear what y’all do the night before a trip! Or if you have any packing tricks you live by!
