Hello ladies! This past weekend Aaron and I spent some time in Sandusky. This was my first time visiting Sandusky and Put-in-Bay, and we had an absolute blast! Sandusky is a quick drive from Columbus, and after spending some time there I have no idea why I waited so long to visit. From the gorgeous wineries to delicious food, Sandusky makes for the perfect Ohio weekend getaway!

Where we Stayed: Hotel Kilbourne

The rooms at the Kilbourne are absolutely stunning! From the decor to the exposed brick walls, they go a step above. The Kilbourne is right in downtown Sandusky, and a few steps away from the Jet Express. Another huge plus of the Kilbourne, is that they have a delicious restaurant at the bottom of the hotel!

LET’S TALK WINE

We visited three different wineries on our visit to Sandusky. Our first winery was right up the road from our hotel and the last two were on Put-In-Bay.

Firelands Winery

Our first stop was to Firelands Winery! We decided to try their semi-sweet flight and Aaron had to sample their sherry. One of the things that stood out the most about Firelands different wines, was how they set up their wine tasting. They separated all of the wines out into different flights and really walked you through how each wine was made, and what it pairs best with.

I loved the Riesling and Aaron couldn’t resist grabbing a bottle of their Sherry!

Heineman’s Winery

Heineman’s winery was our first stop in Put-in-Bay! One of the reasons we decided to venture here first, was so we could explore their crystal cave first! I love the history behind Heineman’s winery, and the different types of wine they have to offer. We also had a first hand look at their cheese plate, and it’s definitely a must for your visit!

Put- In- Bay Winery

Once you combine wine and a waterfront, I’m completely sold. I loved how beautiful the scenery around Put-In-Bay Winery was! You have the option of drinking wine on their front patio area, listen to live music and watch all the boats float in. Or you can make your way to their gazebo for a more secluded wine sipping experience. We decided to spend some time in both areas and sip on all the white wine, Put-In-Bay Winery had to offer!

IMPORTANT ASPECTS TO NOTE

  • Put-in-Bay is a 40min ferry ride from Sandusky, make sure to check the ferry schedule and purchase tickets ahead of time.
  • Downtown Sandusky has some amazing food and great live music! We really enjoyed Daly’s Pub, they had out of this world fried pickles and pizza.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, if you’re spending the day in Put-in-Bay. The island is only 1 mile long, so it’s easy to walk everywhere!
  • Making a stop at Mojito bay for a rum filled coconut is a must!

We had so much fun on our Sandusky staycation and can not wait to go back! Have you ever been to Sandusky or Put-in-Bay before? If so, what’s your go to spot?
